VILLA LICIA A MERCATALE
La realizzazione di questo giardino rappresenta l’ultimo capitolo di una storia antichissima. Il complesso edilizio di cui il nuovo giardino fa parte è composto da un insieme di quattro edifici posti su un lieve poggio, che vede nella piccola cappella dedicata a Santa Lucia, risalente ai primi anni del XV secolo, il più antico manufatto. Dove oggi si estende il giardino, precedentemente era solo un campo con pochi alberi da frutto e sparuti olivi decimati da una recente gelata. Il progetto, sfruttando la naturale conformazione del terreno, consiste nella realizzazione di un arioso parterre scandito da aiuole di bosso al cui interno sono disposte a scacchiera aree di santolina e prato rustico. Le ultime aiuole poste sul confine a valle dell’intervento sono state piantumate con delle rose del tipo iceberg.

VILLA LICIA A MERCATALE
The creation of the garden represents the final chapter in a very long history. The complex of which the new garden is part is made up of a series of four buildings situated on a low hill, of which the small chapel dedicated to St. Lucy, dating to the early fifteenth century, is the oldest. Where the garden is now located there was simply a field with a few scattered fruit trees and a small number of olive tress decimated by a recent frost. Exploiting the natural layout of the terrain, the project consists in the first place in the creation of an airy parterre marked out by beds of box, within which areas of Santolina and rough lawn are set out in a chequered pattern. The santolina, which at present still conserves the plantation appearance will subsequently assume its cushion shape, completely covering the area of the flower-beds. The furthest flower-beds, set at the lower margin of the project area, have been planted with iceberg roses.
